1989 Phoskitos sticker albumHaulWith G.I. Joe starting to be in the top its popularity in 1989, lots of licenses were given to Spanish companies.
Nutrexpa, a food company, tied G.I. Joe to its most popular cake, Phoskitos, a little round sponge cake covered with fondant chocolate which is still sold today. With each cake, kids could find two stickers and the album was sold in newstands and groceries for 30 ESP (Spanish Peseta). The sticker album was based in the Panini stickers sold in most European countries in the late 80s, and consisted in 135 stickers. They showed pictures of four episodes of Sunbow´s G.I. Joe cartoon: Haul down the heavens, Spell of the Siren, Excalibur and Ninja holiday. To finish the collection, a maximum of 14 stickers could be ordered directly to publisher Panini. Together with the stickers, some cakes had direct prizes for consumers in the form of G.I. Joe figures. |
